Batteries can be used for large-scale power requirements
Batteries are a part of our everyday life. We use them in our
cars, cell phones, PC's, laptops, MP3 players and more. People are now starting
to use more sophisticated long life batteries to create and store electricity,
for use in their homes, on boats, and for back-up and remote power.
How batteries work
A battery is, by definition, an electrochemical device that converts chemical
energy into electricity, by a galvanic cell. A galvanic cell is a fairly simple
device consisting of two electrodes of different metals or metal compounds (an
anode and a cathode) and an electrolyte (usually acid, but some are alkaline)
solution. As chemicals in the battery change, electrical energy is stored
or released.
Deep cycle batteries for electricity supply
Deep-cycle, long life batteries are designed to be discharged down as much
as 80% time after time, and have much thicker plates. The major difference between
a true deep-cycle battery and others, is that the plates are SOLID Lead plates
- not sponge. In the case of battery use for solar power, a charge controller
is used, which is a regulator that sits between the solar panels and the batteries.
Regulators for solar power are designed to keep the batteries charged at peak
without overcharging, which helps to extend the battery life and charge.

NB: Only use di-ionised distilled water to top up these cells.
No premature failures due to antimonal poisoning.
Brief Description:
These cells are distinguished by their lead selenium tubular plate design and
high tolerance to cycling, leading to providing the best possible compromise
in lead acid plate technology. By utilising a proportion of selenium in the
grid alloy, a dense fine grain structure is produced.
This alloy is extremely corrosion resistant and virtually eliminates inter-granular
corrosion, being one of the most common causes of cell failure.
These cells combine the advantages of both lead calcium and lead antimony cells,
whilst exhibiting none of the disadvantages.
